Lead, Learn, Execute: Strategies to Take Your Sterile Processing Career to the Next Level

  • Discuss how different roles in the SPD department can transition to the next level
  • Discuss the current industry limitations to upward mobility in SPD
  • Discover ways to lead from any position in the SPD department

 

Session 1 – Speakers

Lindsay Brown, BS, CRCST, CFER

Vice President of Sales and Marketing - Beyond Clean

She is a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) and a Certified Flexible Endoscope Reprocessor (C.F.E.R) through CBSPD. Lindsay has been an active part of the Sterile Processing industry as a speaker at medical facilities and educational seminars around the United States and Canada and have educated healthcare personnel on both fundamental and progressive industry topics. Lindsay was a contributing writer for the Certified Endoscope Reprocessing Technician manual through IAHCSMM and was named 2014 Educator of the Year by the Golden West Central Service & Healthcare Chapter and 2015 Vendor of the Year by the California Central Service Association. She has fulfilled roles as Marketing Manager, Clinical Education Manager and Senior Sales Representative with a demonstrated history of working in these positions within the hospital & health care industry. Lindsay is also skilled in Food & Beverage, Sales, Medical Devices, Sales Operations, and Purchase Contracts and holds a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) focused in Speech Communications from College of St Catherine.

 

Sarah B. Cruz, CSPDT

Quality Education Program Development Coordinator - Central Sterile

As a CS Education Coordinator, she creates and institutes an education program in Central Sterile Departments. This includes, but is not limited to, the formation of programs that: onboard new employees, develop competencies, certify staff, develop LEAN process improvements, and implement standards of best practices and professional practices.

 

She strives to develop CS industry professionals and best practices through writing and speaking. Her dedication to the profession continues as the creator and President of PRETREAT CSS, LLC; a platform used to teach, guide, and develop CS Technicians' professional career. Through tangible actions and physical indicators of success, Sarah knows Central Sterile Services is an excellent profession to develop in as a career. She vocalizes her passion through published articles, social media, mentorship, and public speaking. As an industry expert, she is passionate about her message: put the CSS in SUCCESS!

 

Rebecca Kinney, CCSVP

Owner and medical sales representative – Cypress, Inc.

She is a Certified Central Service Vendor Partner (CCSVP). Rebecca has worked in healthcare for over 15 years. 7 years as a Sterile Processing Technician and 8 years in medical sales working directly with SP. Focused on a proactive and consultative approach, she takes her experience to share knowledge in the field she wishes she knew when she worked in SP. She actively participates in speaking engagements, and utilizing LinkedIn as an educational tool to reach an audience of almost 30,000 professionals.

 

Rebecca is a contributing writer to NewSplash by Ultraclean starting in 2020 and has been featured in Outpatient Surgery Magazine in 2018. Continual process improvement and education lending to patient safety has always been her primary objective.

Michelle Lemmons, RN, BSN, PHN

Clinical Educator, OR - Key Surgical

Michelle has over 10 years of healthcare experience including admissions, OR, acute care, post-acute care, transitional care, and long-term care. She also worked as a scrub nurse and circulator for the CV/Thoracic/General Team at the University of Minnesota Medical Center and is passionate about nursing, healthcare, and individuals using their strengths to support teams and realize their full potential.

 

Jamie Zarembinski, CCSVP

Clinical Educator, SP - Key Surgical

She has over 7 years of experience in the Sterile Processing Industry supporting departments as a sales representative and clinical educator at Key Surgical. Recent recipient of the Robert Hilbolt Award for outstanding healthcare professional in the Sterile Processing industry from the Michigan Society of Healthcare Central Service Professionals (MSHCSP).

 

She plays an active role in the sterile processing industry as a speaker at medical facilities and educational seminars around the United States. She works with sterile processing staff to share, develop, and implement best practices based on recommendations by our governing bodies such as ANSI/AAMI, IAHCSMM, SGNA, AORN and others. She is a member of IAHCSMM, AAMI and AORN.

Sharpen Your Writing Skills, Elevate Your Career & Visibility

  • Identify how sharpening your writing skills can positively impact your career, profession (and your day-to-day life as an SP professional)
  • Learn how to write for IAHCSMM publications, including PROCESS magazine, Insights e-newsletter and IAHCSMM’s textbooks, as well as for other trade publications and journals – and even embark upon the IAHCSMM Fellowship journey
  • Use simple brainstorming techniques/exercises to help find your perfect topic/outline and build your confidence as a writer

Julie Williamson

Editor-in-Chief, PROCESS magazine/ Communications Director - IAHCSMM

She holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism and has had hundreds of articles published on topics related to Sterile Processing, Surgical Services, Infection Prevention, and Materials Management. In her role as IAHCSMM’s Communications Director, she writes, coordinates and edits articles for IAHCSMM’s PROCESS magazine and its bi-weekly digital e-newsletter Insights; researches, writes and edits articles for various healthcare journals and trade publications; drafts press materials; facilitates interviews and article development with big media (national newspapers, magazines and television programs) to help promote the Sterile Processing profession nationwide; and mentors up-and-coming authors and editorial contributors.
